Commit ONE murder and you are a murderer forever after. Is the same true if you tell ONE LIE/BETRAY one person? A liar/betrayer forever?

The more often you lie the more liar you are. The more you murder the more often you murder the more murderer you are. The more often you betray the more betrayer you are. Since you cannot undo what you did does regret mean anything even if it is truly felt and not just window dressing? One wonders.

  • You paint an exceptionally bleak picture regarding serious transgression. I cannot accept a view that excludes redemption and restoration which begins with repentance and yes, regret. There's nothing to wonder about. One of my favorite examples of redemption is King David. He committed adultery and the betrayal and murder of a loyal and trusting friend. Once called out on his misdeeds, the king accepted the grace and mercy of God and was restored, but not without consequence for him and his house. Repentance is an open response to that which was carried out in secret and kept in the shadows. Such acts bring serious consequence that doesn't go away and must be borne but that doesn't take away the hope of redeeming mercy. David wasn't the only example, but one of many liars, cheats and scoundrels recorded in scripture that went on to be used greatly by God through redemption and restoration.
