I think the best self-protection we can have is an inquiring mind and a suspicious nature. Some folks are only too happy to accept what they are told and believe it and go with it without doing anything to verify it. Scammers count on it. They skim the surface of legality. Make promises they never keep just to suck in the meek and never deliver on those promises but they don't have to. Because there are always new suckers out there waiting to be fleeced. Go figger!
