1. I'm not trying to defend Trump or his methods of appealing to his base, but people may have gotten so frustrated with the system that Trump represents the anti- system.
2. People may have felt no one listens to them. Trump says he is their voice.
3. Trump is trying to appeal to their emotions and prejudices. He scapegoats other people to blame them for the predicament they are in, especially with the economy. He tries to give them answers of what will improve their lives.
4. There are many more reasons.

I think it's important to note that while many Trump supporters are primarily motivated by racism/xenopobia, there is also an element of Trump support which is simply "throw the bums out" frustration with the current US political system.

My friend m2c. We are at opposite ends of the political pole but she has been fair and kind and defended me from those who would attack me. She and I have much in common. It is just our politics that separate us. I shall never understand how a quality person like that could ever support a badly  defective person like Trump .  I will defend her right to be that way as she defends my right to be the way I am Sharonna.
