Your parent is a pol. It is expected and unsurprising that you would support him/her. That is "normal". But there are always "black sheep" who peep to a different drummer. How would you feel if your kid advocated supporting your opponent? Betrayed or unbothered?
What d'ya think TGITWH would do if Ivanka distanced herself from him by stating out loud her disagreement with many of the things he sez and duz? and advocated voting for a Democrat? Would daddy dearest take it lying down saying nothing or would he attack her and destroy her? Feeding his ego is the most crucial thing in his life so anyone taking it down is his enemy. How strong are blood ties? If she wrote an article outlining every awful thing he has said and done and criticized him for them how do you think he would react? Would he disown her, punish her, shut her up? She may well despise much of what he does/says but is afraid of what he would do to her so she basically stifles it.
