FLUKE is a chameleon-like word. It changes according to its environment. What other words are as varied?

A FLUKE is the part of an anchor or harpoon or spear or arrow that is BARBED
A FLUKE is a flounder or other flat fish
A FLUKE is either half of the triangular tail of a whale
A FLUKE is an accidental advantage. A stroke of good luck.

It was a fluke that the Fluke escaped the fluke of the harpoon and twitch of the whale fluke.

Isn't also a fluke to win an election without having the most votes...

That's covered in an "accidental advantage. A stroke of good luck" DB. Thank you for your reply! :)

The word 'part' has many meanings.
I wonder if a fluke can get flukes.

Why not? What's in a name? A rose by any name would smell as sweet. A fluke by any other name would taste the same, fish-wise. I know fish flukes have babies so yes to your wonder. Flukes can "have" flukes. It may be a fluke if birth control is used and it certainly would be dangerous if a fluke (barb) were used. Sigh. But I digress. Thank you for your reply Ele. OK. We play a part (role). We are part of humanity (a member). When we part (leave each other) we're sad. Waters part(ed) in the bible (separated). I just want part of that piece (a portion). Why do you part your hair that way (section it?).  :) This post was edited by RosieG at August 28, 2018 9:29 AM MDT

Another definition of a fluke is a worm-like parasite.
