"We shall overcome". What happens when you reach a point where you know we shan't? When does impossible sink in?

I think it is always good to be positive and hopeful.  But I think we need to temper that with practicality.  We are not going to change the world but at best a small part of it.  And even if we do not the process is very worthwhile and we learn much from it.
