How do we KNOW that those who stand for the national anthem aren't doing it just for show so they don't get hammered? Does it matter?

You go along to get along and don't make waves because you do not want to be a target for a bully. Your heart and mind are not where they appear to be.  But you're not up to fighting other people's battles or supporting their right to fight.  So you take the easy way. High fives all around. All standees are super duper patriots. Anyone can see that right? What you see is what you get every time right? No one is gonna fake it just so the bullies won't target him/her. Right? Admirable. So many true patriots. SIGH. Right.

I stand for our national anthem because I learned to out of simple respect and gratitude for being able to enjoy the best institutions of our country. And no one, try as they may, will "bully" me not to!  If others don't respect their country, or choose not to stand for whatever reason that is their business.  I can't live for them just as they can't for me.
