Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» For those who own your own businesses, what is your least favorite part and for those who don't would you like to own one?
Now that surprises me DB. I have never owned my own business but there were a couple of times I had jobs supervising others. I hated it. The petty silly ridiculous things people would get upset about..personality conflicts..slacking down on the job. Sheesh. People can be a royal pain in the arse and I got sick of it so I turned down other jobs that required me to play hall monitor or playground supervisor. I mean seriously. So people getting along and working together to get the job done in timely fashion were NEVER a problem for you? I salute you. Thank you for your reply! :)

Maintaining a positive work environment was always at the top of our list when I was running my firm. We were positioned to make money, regardless, so it was a point of utmost importance to hire our staff carefully. My partner and I employed about 200 people, and yes, there was the occasional dust-up, but since we were actively involved as owner-managers, few if any rose to a level of dire conflict. Generally, I don’t mind dealing with people. That said, your query inquired about the facet of business operation we liked least, and handing over hard-won revenue to government agencies for arbitrary fees and what seemed endless taxes fits that bill.
I can understand that DB. As a retired Internal Auditor I was always looking on the other side of that coin. Making sure all financial requirements were met and in a timely fashion. I'd audit different departments to check and make sure of that. I took it very seriously. Well I'm a serious person. I remember my favorite boss (the smartest person I've ever known) told me up front that it was our job in Finance to protect the assets of the company. And making sure we dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's was very important to achieve that. If we ever had any audits we never had to pay fines because we were always in compliance. Thank you for your reply! :)
