Unless you are super lucky you don't always like all your co-workers. But you have to cooperate with them to get the job done. Do you?

I don't think its a matter of liking them but you need to respect them as human beings whatever their work shortcomings which is sometimes difficult.  I have drawn I guess my share of resentment/jealousy because of the amount of time I have been here and my authority and proximity to the higher-ups. I have been called names and had wild tales concocted about me and been the subject of a couple of systematic attempts to discredit me mostly the work of other women here.  And funny they get so involved in their jealousies and hatred they neglect what they are supposed to do and don't last. Most of those responsible are now gone. Have never had any problem with any of the women in my office or the (mostly) men I have worked directly with except sometimes they have not responded well to my encouraging them to try and get their projects done on time and within budget.  Office politics do not help anyone but only distract from a team effort and like you observe are sometimes not pretty but I guess they do go on most everywhere. Liking coworkers is irrelevant. It’s about professionalism and respect. I coexist well with almost all of my coworkers. I only have problems with one coworker; a supervisor. I’m still respectful the majority of the time. I articulate my stances and usually disagree with her respectfully. When working for someone else, I have no problems with co workers. I do my job.
