In the recorded history of the United States the storm that killed the most people was in Galveston, Texas in 1900. Have you heard of it?

Between 8,000 - 12,000 died. It's below sea level just as is New Orleans. Is it wise to live at the ocean's edge like that?

Not necessarily unwise if one takes the necessary precautions. beforehand. Folks now have ample time to prepare and evacuate if necessary if they heed the warnings. Our technology enables us to predict the storms soon after they start west of Africa. Obviously the Galveston citizens had no such warnings.

I saw it dramatized in a show on TV long ago. The presumption was they could have been warned and should been warned but someone was neglectful. It was not a warning due to the sophisticated technology we have  today vis a vis predicting landfall of storms and when. But it would have given them some time to get out I don't remember the particulars Ele but it was very sad to see it dramatized on TV. Thank you for your reply.
