Do you know anyone in the tech industry who has been unemployed for an extended period of time?

I've known many and I feel responsible somewhat because it was part of my previous position to reduce staff as part of the outsourcing of IT services.  My final role was to literally outsource myself.  I stayed until the bitter end otherwise I wouldn't have gotten my 6 month severance pay. :(
