How can you posit the existence of anything for which there is no evidence? Is the existence of DARK MATTER still theoretical?

Can you logically ASSUME things from having proof/evidence of other things? How does  that work?

    Now m'dear pal we both know there is a right way and a wrong way and I stumbled and expressed it the wrong way. So thanks for making an excuse for me. I appreciate it. Anyway I just asked the question. Why DOES dark matter matter?  Does it hold the universe together? Is it like a huge bucket surrounding everything? What would happen if there were no dark matter?
