Does it matter to you WHY people lie or only that they lie? Are compulsive liars easier to tolerate than those who are purpose-driven?

Are the lies of compulsive liars who are mentally dysfunctional easier to forgive/tolerate than lies of those who need to lie to sell themselves to others?  A compulsive liar isn't manipulative. He is sick. Do we forgive sick and accept it?
