Is attacking the messenger (what the don do do daily) proof of strength or weakness? Does the don understand the difference?

Why is he incapable of differentiating between what is and who is reporting it? He continually conflates the two which is a pretty stupid dumb thing to do. Why do he do what he do  do do and not realize how wrong it is?
