Were the WASPS who fled to America from England really OUTCASTS and RIFF-RAFF as opined by an Answermug pal? Embarrassingly true?

Or is that just FAUX NEWS and all the original WASPS were of stellar character and honorable and fair and just and true? Whatcha think? I think it's an interesting thesis and might explain how racism/bigotry came to this country originally. I seriously doubt it began with Native Americans whose country this was, is and always will be. The rest of us are invaders among whom some are murderers rapists terrorists.  That part the john of don got right. He just was way off in his knowledge of the when. Math and history are not his strong suit.

Most were separatists meaning they separated from the Church of England which was the state church so that was illegal to do.  No most were upstanding merchants and farmers and many well-educated but they were considered "outcasts" because they believed in a more Biblically-based construction of church and society, less hierarchical than English society and the Church of England.  They challenged the accepted way of doing things so mostly England was happy to see them go.  Much later England tried to impose Episcopalianism of the colonies but by then the more free church and governmental system was already established there. That was more true of northern colonies. Southern were more Church of England and what is now Maryland was founded by English Catholics!  Pennsylvania primarily by English Quakers.
