We still do that don't we? Maybe it's not a bloody altar but we joyfully sacrifice others to comfit ourselves. Doesn't matter what group we designate as "the other". If they are harmed/destroyed we survive and thrive. We are still the same savages barbarians we always were. We just savage differently these days. Progress?
