The head is the holding tank for brain/mind as the body is the holding tank for other organs. Can a body live with an empty head? How long?

Can a body live with a head crammed full of non-working parts...diseased and immobilized? How long can a literally brain-dead human being survive? Once brain-dead can it ever be resuscitated and function normally?
