Do other animals besides human beings go by "gut" instincts? Doesn't all "thinking" reside in the brain which is normally found in the head?

Thinking or belching/burping. Are they the same thing? It's kinda confusing based on what we learned in high school physiologically speaking.  If guts make decisions is it the gut that writes poetry, music? If you call someone GUTSY does mean he/she is way smart?
