When you reply to a question do you focus on the core issue or look for a peripheral tertiary irrelevant thread and respond to that?

What do mean? I'm so glad you asked.

You witness a  BLOODY murder by stabbing. You describe in great detail what you saw including the knife used  as well and mention that it has a ceramic handle with aqua flowers on it. Someone says the flowers were aquamarine and goes off on that only ignoring the core issue completely. Now my question to you is why in the world does someone show up and focus on an arguably irrelevant issue and miss the point completely? What drives such people to do that?
