My sister has one of those stupid ceramic knives. She swears by it. I tried using it once and decided it won't even cut Jello. It cannot be sharpened. The best metal for knives is surgical stainless steel. They are difficult to sharpen but the edge last for quite a while.

Jim got me one of those ceramic knives too. I tried it a couple of times. Not my favorite.  It has a cover for the blade and it looks kinda pretty sitting on the cheese board. Useful? Not so much. Thank you for your reply Ele!                     There are some German-made knives that are very expensive so I expect they are very excellent! :)

A knife can always be sharpened, USA steel is the best quality, Japanese and other countries don't utilize their best ore and have cheap knifes. If the knife isn't made in the US. it ain't worth buying, you'll be sharpening it everyday, lol.
