  • I think knowing more than one language is always a good thing.  It doesn't have to be French .. it can be anything you enjoy learning about or that helps you in your life.  I took many years of Spanish in school because I thought it would be fun.

With all the diversity in the US ... many people don't speak English at all ... or are multilingual.  That's pretty commonplace today.

Do you live where people do?  Then it is advantageous.

  • If you live or/ and work in Ottawa, Ontario or Quebec,  it’s definitely a bonus knowing both English and French. Actually, live anywhere in Ontario really, but mainly Ottawa cos on Quebec border.

  • All of my French Canadian relatives speak/spoke French here in the US.   Unfortunately, I only picked up a little of the language and certainly not enough to carry on a convo.    I prefer Italian actually, but I can't speak that either.

At one time it was the second most in demand language next to English.  Now Spanish is second.  French is hard for English speakers to learn.  My daughter took French from seventh grade until she went to university where she tested out.  She still intentionally speaks French and she reads books written in French so that she keeps her fluency.  I admire bilingual folks.  I've tried but the language part of my brain seems to be full of English.  :)

  • Terrible idea.  It will take me back to junior year of high school and the horrible French professor I had.
