I grew up a few blocks away from my aunts and uncles and grandparents. We were all Italian and that means FOOD aplenty. Every Sunday for years we went to grandma's for dinner. We ate like there was no tomorrow.
By the time I was grown and grandma was gone my cousin tried to keep up the tradition. However, there was so much discord and distrust in my family by then, the whole thing became a game of one-upmanship over who had the most success and the most money. It was nauseating. I went less and less often until now I cannot even remember much of any good times.
I prefer to remember the days when my grandparents were around. They were the best cooks too.
