In this fable the turtle beats the rabbit(hare) to the finish line. Why? The rabbit dillydallies and the turtle forges ahead. Only a fable?

Does it ever happen in real life? The one with all the gifts being beaten by a slow plodding slothful dull untalented competitor? Any examples?
