SIGH. "Everybody does it". "It's been going on for centuries". Does that ameliorate mitigate whatever that it is? Why do so many use it?

You ask WHY something happened or WHY something is.

What you get is

It's been going on for years. It happens everywhere. Everybody does it.

How is this a reply to WHY? It rationalizes justifies excuses. I find no answer to WHY. I wonder why some folks REFUSE to reply to why? That means giving a logical rational sensible reason which they can't do if they simply shrug it off by saying "it's always been this way". WHY?
