Which style of which author is your favorite? Is there any style of writing that prevents you from reading a book?

For me it is writing in dialect. I don't like it. Sometimes William  Faulkner wrote that way. I find it unreadable. What about  you? What style of writing turns you off?

Other than foreign language ... I haven't come across any particular style that prevents me from reading a book.
Though if the book is "too descriptive", I will skip over those parts.

Example: westerns that spend a lot of time describing the scenery, I will skip over most of that part.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply Walt. I took 4 years of French and during those years I did check books out in French. Also records of singers like Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour who were French singers. You may have heard the names. I steeped myself in it. I was so very "french" for a time. Also my son took French in school and so we would occasionally speak French when we were alone. His surname is French and in fact his last name is among the names engraved on the Arche de Triomphe. There was such a one with that surname who was involved in the French Revolution. But whether or not it was a relative I do not know. He was in Paris years ago after a college-related seminar and happened to see it. In fact...it was on 9/11 and he was stuck there for a couple of days until he could find a flight home. Flights were grounded for awhile.SIGH!   :).
