I do not admire the 5th amendment. I admire people who take responsibility for their actions and don't lie, cover up or refuse to speak. I can't admire that. Why do you admire it if you do?
Agreed. People shouldn't lie or do "wrong". But if (when) they do, they should own up to it and accept the consequences. Unfortunately, people don't like accepting the consequences of their actions when caught. So they lie to try to get out of it. We have a plethora of lawyers whose only job is to get their "clients" off - whether they did the deed or not. They exploit technicalities and loopholes in order to justify wrongdoing. The 5th has its advantages, however too many "crooked" people use it to hide behind. They know they're guilty, but instead of admitting it and accepting the consequences, they use the 5th as "armor". This abuse of the amendment is why when someone "takes the 5th" we automatically assume they're guilty. How much better would this world be if people simply accepted the consequences of their actions instead of trying to deceive others by lying?
((hugs)) Pardon the impertinence of the hug Shuhak but you know I'm harmless and we've chatted long enough that you know I don't mean anything untoward about it. It's how I show my delight! I have never tried to cover up anything. When I was very much younger I'd lie but you know what? I was never good at it. NEVER. I might have fooled others in the short-term but the guilt I lived with was not pleasant. And when challenged or caught I ALWAYS IMMEDIATELY admitted it. ALWAYS. No coverups for me. I finally realized when one is lousy at doing something it's best to STOP DOING IT! So I did. I prefer to take whatever hits I'm gonna get right up front when I am HONEST about something. Get it over with so I don't have to worry about when I'm gonna be outed. That is not living. That is barely existing. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)
