Australia passes law to punish social media companies for violent posts! Hooray or Slippery Slope? Why?

Australia would imprison media execs for live-streaming violence like the New Zealand mosque massacre. My initial reaction is GREAT! But then I'm thinking maybe it isn't that simple.   Who decides where the line is and if the decider changes does the line change too? What do YOU think?

It will spur advancement in Artificial Intelligence, and algorithms used to determine such content.

Physical violence can be pretty easy to spot.
But what if it's fake?  Like pro wrestling?
OH!  Even better - what about the violence of a fight erupting during a hockey game?  Could someone post that?
What about videos of a riot?  Or police brutality?

Meanwhile, the European Union is considering legislation that will require companies like YouTube and Facebook to prevent upload of copyrighted material.  Also a good idea, but requires a person to check all content before allowing it to be uploaded.  It's legal to use copyrighted material in a parody, for instance - but current AI can't determine what is parody.  And what if there is an NFL game on a TV in the background?  That would technically be rebroadcasting without the express written permission of the NFL, and a violation of copyright.  Some "experts" interviewed in the NPR story believe that you might have to "blur out" any picture/painting/photo in the background ... or anything with a logo.

Perfect Walt! GREAT elucidation and articulation of what will surely be in that SLIPPERY SLOPE! It's complicated. SHEESH. I can't think of one valid logical meaningful essential reason why anyone would post such an atrocity as that massacre. Only sick minds would think it would be superdupernifty to share and watch and get off on I guess. It disgusts. SIGH. Thank you for your excellent reply m'dear. You more than answered the question I asked. You elevated the question with the quality of your answer for which I thank you. Now we'll see if it matters at all and if anything clicks and sticks that we can live with futurely. :) This post was edited by RosieG at April 4, 2019 8:48 AM MDT
