When is the PONTIFICATING CORRECTER most helpful and when is he the least? Ever engage with one? Are you one?

I believe they believe they are doing the world a great service. Contributing nothing of their own because they spend all their waking hours reading/listening to the contributions of others to find fault with it so they can correct it.  It is what it is. They are whom they are. I guess it keeps them off the streets and out of bars. Mebbe not.

With regard to paid critics who earn a living criticizing do you pay any attention them? If they thumbs down a movie do you not see it? If they thumbs down a restaurant do you not check it out for yourself? Do you live your life following the opinions of critics because you think it will save you from wasting your time and money? Why?

Ever see a movie the critics panned that you loved? How about a movie the critics loved and waxed poetic about that you thought was stupid mundane sophomoric and a waste of time? Why would anyone substitute a stranger's opinion for his/her own? I don't get it.

If one is a critic, is not one's primary job to cut down the world's flowers? This post was edited by tom jackson at April 16, 2019 1:46 PM MDT

If the critic is paid for the criticism that is his job. If the critic saunters around taking shots at everyone for kicks? Well I think they're OBNOXIOUS. So sue me! Different strokes rock and roll and rule. Some folks appreciate the attacks and supercilious condemnation. Others tolerate it because they don't want to make waves or enemies. Then there are those like me who find it to be intolerable and abhorrent. Thank you for your question tom. Did I answer it? Are you a fan?  When I am involved with something substantive and interesting to have a correcter barge in to highlight a flaw and nothing else I find to be an abomination. At least have the courtesy to ANSWER THE DAM* question first then get in your licks correcting it. I don't know about you but that's how I roll. SIGH. Actually, I borrowed my answer from a Changing Times cartoon from many years ago---it was intended to be sarcastic and hardly dispositive of my opinion of those who criticize.

The cartoon was of a sparsely drawn but embellished stick-like figure crawling around cutting down equally sparsely drawn flowers.  The caption was something like "But I'm a critic---my job is to cut down flowers."
