To you GREEN THUMBS out there! What do you do to make YOUR garden grow besides watering, weeding, feeding it what it needs? Do you talk to it?

I have heard that some folks actually talk to their plants and insist in so doing they flourish. I find that kinda hard to be believe but I'm a notorious BROWN THUMBS gal so what do I know? If you do talk what do you say, how often and do they ever talk back?

I think like a plant.  I just know what it wants as a rule.  It is basically common sense.  Read a little and plant a lot.  Mother Nature is the best teacher and the best provider of a good, healthy plant.

Yes, they do talk---although their vocabulary is somewhat limited.  (Don't tell anybody I said this, I don't want word to get out.)

I read once that it is a scientifically supportable truth. It has to do with oxygen or something. Talking to your plants..breathing out as you do..benefits them scientifically! Who knew? Thank you for your reply tom and Happy Thursday to yo u! :)

I've never pursued information about it in any sort of detail---Unfortunately, on the whole, I find plants to be much more reasonable than many of the supposed higher order creations referred to as homo sapiens

I really don't know why I have a green thumb.  Maybe it's because I try to be nice to plants.

Yes, I talk to my plants.  Some say it's the carbon dioxide in the breath that makes them flourish, but I don't know about that.  I can't possibly breathe enough to satisfy my entire yard.  The neighbors probably think I'm crazy ("oh look  dear, the weirdo next door is out talking to his squash again").  I spend all winter talking to the "forest" in my garage.  I tell them how many more days are left before they get to go back outside.

I believe it is scientifically supportable that talking to your plants is beneficial for them. If they talk back though it could get a little "TWILIGHT ZONE". Thank you for your reply Shuhak. You say you are kind to them. I have tried to be kind through the years. I've been given plants I was told were very simple to keep alive. I've been given explicit instructions of what to do/not do. I have followed them faithfully as best I can and yet my plants always die. I don't know why. Thank you for your reply Shuhak. I just thought of a question to ask on this topic. I know. You're shocked! :)

Actually... they do "talk" back.  No, not like you and I do, but in their own kind of "language".  One just has to learn how to "listen".

It's not just following instructions that keeps plants alive and happy.

No I don't talk to my plants and doubt I would ever be able to think of  much to say to them.   Sort of like being on AM!  I don't even have a green fingernail but I try and at least am able to enjoy the fruits of some of my labors every year.
