Do you genderize inanimate objects? I think "sheing" a ship is silly. Do you agree/dis?

An Answermug friend sez there is some objection in some quarters to referring to a ship as a "she". I think referring to any inanimate object as "he" or "she" is riddikalus! Whose idea was it? Not all ideas are good ones.
