Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» We elected an AFRICAN AMERICAN man to be our prez. TWICE. Next a BRILLIANT YOUNG white gay man? Do we have to work up to electing a WOMAN?
I would rather be a woman any day of the year running for prez than a gay man. Or a gay woman.
The open-mindedness of the country for gays is becoming more tolerant, thank GOD. This is because there are so many extraordinary examples of gay people in almost every family in America. How can we deny their rights? How can we tell them how to live when they do nothing to break laws and help to do what every brave American does to keep America great? They are (mostly OF COURSE NOT ALL OF THEM) a group of kind and thoughtful people who just want to live their lives. Some are obnoxious. BECUASE THEY ARE HUMAN BEINGS. We all have obnoxious representations in all genders.
But homosexuality is not a small issue. Black is small compared to that one. So is being female.
Maybe Pete will charm some. But I think that is some obstacle he has hanging over his head. I would be very afraid to have him be the candidate against Trump. VERY . I want to know TRUMP is going to LEAVE THE OFFICE and I know my FAVORITE may not make the grade this time. Just let it be a DEMOCRAT at least. PLEASE GOD. PLEASE.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply Sharon. I understand your concerns. But I am always drawn to BRILLIANCE. That has always been what attracted me to others. Mayor Pete speaks 7 or 8 languages. He is a RHODES SCHOLAR. He served his country patriotically in the military. He has political experience as Mayor of an American City. He is relatively young...barely old enough to run for prez. Ya hafta be 35 and I think he is 37. So he loves a guy? SO WHAT? That isn't even on my list of wants vis a vis what I WANT in my president. I like Kamala Harris a lot. She is also BRILLIANT. I am a sap for BRILLIANT and Obama was but the sb prez is so not even mediocrely smart. He is a DUNCE but he is apparently that is what others like about him and they feel comfy with him cuz he is so spectacularly DUMB! I am NOT BRILLIANT by a long shot but I am always drawn to the super smart geniuses. My son is one. Having another BRILLIANT person as our prez would be my cuppa tea. What matters to me is not whom someone loves but who someone is. Character. Honesty. Caring. Kindness. Fairness. Thank you for your reply.

I'm just like you, Rosie. I love smart. But smart is not going to get us rid of Trump right now. Familiar and safe is. Biden can provide that. I hope other people realize this. I want Butti too. But I think he has to wait a few years. Meanwhile any job available that he would consider in any cabinet will be granted him if a Dem wins through.
I disagree. You will NEVER bring people who adore the sb prez together with those who DESPISE him. That is a fantasy that I cannot even imagine Walt. I also disagree that BRILLIANCE is not of any consequence to you. We had a very smart guy with Obama. We have a super DUNCE in the sb prez. It is going to take BRILLIANCE to get us out of this morass that the jacka** has designed for us. You have Jared Kushner whose job it is to "bring together Israel and Palestine". How is he doing? He is responsible for effecting Middle East Peace according to his FIL. So far so bad. They have vastly different goals. So too do the prodons and condons. Coming together? Surely you jest. Give me someone who is ethical and BRILLIANT and that will always be my cuppa tea. Don't hold your breath. Brilliant folks are not stupid dumb so they don't lust after being King like the dumbunnies do. Thank you for your reply! :)
I am a "small L" libertarian. My official voter registration is "Unaligned" ... since there is now an Independent Party, so I can no longer claim to be Independent.
ANY President should be able to not only HAVE a civil discourse with those who oppose him - but act as a mediator between differing political views, and bring those parties to the discussion table.
But for that second "qualification", you have to have people in Congress willing to sit down with their opponents and have a civil discussion. I do not feel we have had that in Congress for a while ... before President Trump, even. And I feel that most politicians are moving farther away from it ... in order to remain popular with their "base".
EDIT: I don't really care if a person is brilliant or what their intelligence is ... as long as they know when they don't know. Example: Don't know economics? No problem. Few do, after all. Just as long as you surround yourself with people who do - and listen to their advice.

Before Obama people used to reach across the aisle. But the old white Republican men were so incensed by having a AFRICAN AMERICAN man be prez they just dug in their heels and refused to budge. Mitch McConnell led the way. RACISTS dug in. Their antidote to Obama was the sb prez. The exact opposite of Obama in every way. Racist hate is why McConnell stopped all bipartan activity. So did that turkey Paul Ryan. Both refused to bring anything substantive to the floor for debate or vote. The REPUBLICANS stopped in its tracks bipartisan. They are the ones you should be targeting. AS IF! In my opinion. Thank you for your reply Walt! :)
