"Abnormal" has often been used to limit us, to truncate our possibilities. We were told it is "abnormal" for us to want to vote, to seek work outside the home, to better educate ourselves, to "disobey" our men, to work for change, to enjoy men other than our husbands, to seek national or local political office, etc. etc. Anyone who wished to oppose us may do so by labelling us, or what we do, as "abnormal". It becomes a means of controlling us.
Oh and what happens is that all manner of things have to change.
