We accuse the sb prez of only being prez for those who voted for him. Shouldn't a Dem prez candidate want to be prez for ALL THE PEOPLE?

Shouldn't Dem prez candidates appear on Fox News to reach an audience they never would reach otherwise since Fox News watchers NEVER WATCH READ OR LISTEN TO ANYTHING ELSE EVER beyond the extreme right wing like Limbaugh and Hannity and Coulter et al? Isn't refusing to appear there the same thing as what the sb prez does which we all find contemptible and absurd and so INSULTING? I don't get it. Do you?

Any candidate who is elected is theoretically and legally representing ALL the people in their district.  However not all the people in any one district are going to think the same or subscribe to the same views.  So of course some will respect a reps views while other will disparage them .  That is natural in this system.  So Trump is representing people who don't even like him or believe in his message.  My congressperson is Liz Warren who I did not vote for nor does she express my point of view but she is my rep even though she does not represent me and all I stand for at all!

I agree too bad ideals are so far apart there is no more middle ground. Which when we were young was simply practicality.  I was a Democrat because I once saw that as the party of freedom and choice. But when they started advocating costly social experiments and obliging me to pay for them I realized they no longer believed in freedom but rather government control.  So became a Republican by default.  Are we really expected to vote for people who label us "racist" and "stupid" and try to make us feel guilty and evil for working and becoming successful?  Or whose every action seems directed at discrediting and ousting a president I helped elect?  Eventually there may well be a Democratic candidate who gets back to the basics and forgets about all the pie in the sky and the  accusations and finger-pointing and realizes we are not perfectible. Hopefully they will do very well. This post was edited by officegirl at May 15, 2019 6:07 AM MDT

Ideally, yes. But they do not and if they flipped on everything they campaigned on doing their voters will not be happy.

Would you have been happy if Obama flipped to a Prolife, NRA supporter?

As Obama said "Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.”
