Not sure where you received the notion that only 1% of the people in this country have benefitted financially during Mr. Trump's presidency.  While there will always be poor people, in general it has been a time of prosperity for most of us.   I thought you were retired so no longer working.

People who are retired are generally on a fixed income.  If Trump's tariff war continues, the cost of almost everything we buy will rise and, for those on a fixed income, that doesn't mean prosperity.

The rest of us are superfluous.
Yet, if it weren't for the" rest of us", the rich would be at each other's throats.

Our sole purpose is to make the rich richer.  They rake in billions off our backs but provide little in return.  We toil and sweat for a meager pittance and then are forced to relinquish some of that in taxes.  The wealthy do little work, yet find loopholes so they don't have to pay any taxes on their incomes.  (give that billionaire another tax cut for being so smart).
A wealthy businessman runs the country.  Do you think he's really going to help the "non-wealthy"?  Of course not, he's going to help himself and those like him.  Oh, he may pretend to care about Joe and Jane American, but in reality he only cares about increasing his wealth.

He cries, "Tax cuts for all".  Reality - the wealthy get huge permanent tax cuts, while the rest get a tiny temporary tax cut. (atta boy mr. prez.)
He cries, "trade tariffs will help our economy".  Reality -  prices go up, jobs disappear, and the economy tanks (again), but the rich, with their money safely stored in offshore accounts, continue to live in luxury. (know what will help - another tax cut for the rich, or perhaps another bailout).
He cries, "I'm going to make america great again".  Reality - great for the wealthy.  Everyone else can scoot back across the border, or die as he scraps healthcare and social security (waste of precious money).
