If HEAVEN is truly a perfect place then those who are extremists, haters, obsessed would never ever get in. Right?

Would all of them gather together in some other place...oblivion or a vacuum...and "live" forever united together enjoying one another's oddball queer peculiar proclivities? Happy thought ain't it?

The afterlife has always been the perfect setting for whomever is telling the story.

For Vikings, it was mead halls and fighting.

The ancient Greeks had Elysium, a comfortable place where the sun always shone.

Ancient Egypt and China believed that you basically kept doing what you did before you died ... just on another existence.

I'm with ancient Egypt/China except I say all negativity disappears. We still can disagree with one another  but we do so with elegance style grace and good manners. Who wouldn't luv THAT? Thank you for your reply Walt! :)

The ancient Greeks believed that your first stop after death was before judgement, and you had all your memories erased.

    IMO, that's messed up.
I mean, you get judged and sent to Hades - and without your memories, you have no idea why you're being punished.

  • I think when any of us arrive in Heaven we are likely to be surprised at whom we find there and conversely whom we do not see present.  There will no doubt be those who were less than savory characters here on earth whom through Gods grace and forgiveness upon their repentance of said deeds are welcomed into an eternity in the presence of God love.  The key is repentance.  The wonderful thing is that though the person may enter through Heavens gate, thankfully the hatred,  the negativity, and the extremism won't come with them.  We're only allowed one carry on for that trip and it is love.

I guess GOD can spot a phony a mile away. "Repentance" can be faked when convenient or necessary. If an evildoer truly repents for being what he/she was I cannot think how they could possibly imagine they would DESERVE to be in Heaven. All the others who lived decent lives and did the right thing as best they could  while the latecomers to doing the "right" thing spent their lives in degradation and humiliation and deceit and harmful activity get a "pass" on all of that and are treated the same as the others? I THINK NOT. I think that sucks.  BIGTIME.  I don't buy it for a minute. Why would YOU think that is so groovy? How is that equitable and fair and just and GODLY? It gives the scumbags an ace up a sleeve to use at the very last minute? Seriously?  SIGH.   Your take on eternity is very different from mine. Thank you for your reply TD and Happy Thursday to thee! :)

  • That is simply how forgiveness works.  God does not write us off with no chance for redemption.  No matter how heinous the crime.  Some of the greatest figures in the biblical text were very flawed humans.  Saul who became Paul later in life was a feared notorious persecutor of Christians but his heart became changed and he lived out the rest of his life a humble servant of God.  The transformative power of love is unsurpassed.  God is love.  The entirety of the biblical narrative is about that very matter.  Loving the unlovable and providing a path to salvation for all.  No one is flawless.  We all need God's grace.  Especially the worst of us.  If forgiveness were a matter of fairness then jesus christ would never have hung on a cross.  His blood was innocent.  It poured forth so that everyone, even the thief on the cross beside him could, in his final moments upon repentance, be saved.  We are all  Gods children and he wishes for not one of us to be lost. • I know that I don't have to remind a lifelong adherent to the faith such as yourself, about the story of Saul of Tarsus. He was a hater and an extremist who was obsessed with the persecution of Christians. He ended up as an evangelist, church founder and author of a large portion of the New Testament. Of course, when you get there, you can argue with him about why he doesn't belong.
