Can you imagine a more insulting putdown than that? Why would she say it when she KNEW I loved to cook and that's why all the guys hung out at our house. I overhead my son say to a friend during a phone conversation..."why don't you come over? It's nicer here"! I'm not kidding. He actually said that. I don't know to whom he was speaking but I shall never forget how happy that made me feel. Anyway why do people say cruel things KNOWINGLY? Is it due to some underlying hostility that they are too afraid to vocalize directly? I don't get it.
