VERY SCARY! Did any of you watch "60 Minutes" last night, specifically the segment on RARE EARTHS?

Did you know the US used to be the leader in the field? Did you know CHINA now controls about 80% of the rare earths production? Did you know that a bazillion electrical and electronic thingies DEPEND ON rare earths as among the components for then to be manufactured? Did you know that China has threatened to cut us off due to the sb prez tariffs ploy? Did you know that would deeply harm our security since everything we produce to insure our security is made with rare earths?

So if China refuses to provide us with the rare earths we need for the bazillion things we manufacture what do you propose we do? Go to war with China? Stop the tariffs talk?

Every day in every way scarier becomes the norm in the good old US of A. Hey hey hey!

    Fascinating, wasn't it. I liked the segment on the old man figuring out how to win the lotteries. Why didn't I think off that?

    He rattled off  bunch of numbers and odds off the top of his head and was amazed that others hadn't figgered it out as well. I didn't even understand how he did that all in his head! He found loopholes and took advantage of them but didn't keep it to himself. He shared it. Like a crime syndicate almost except that it was totally on the up and up and legal! Math genius. Did you see the movie "Hidden Figures" E? That was one he** of a movie and the level of math talent these gals must have been born with was staggering to me. If you saw it did any of those math equations the "Katherine" character wrote on the blackboard make sense to you? Were they just gibberish and meaningless or were they real higher math with real solutions? I wouldn't know! But it was sure impressive and awesome! Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday to thy! :)

    It is all true. African American women who were brilliant mathematicians working at NASA created the math to get the astronauts back to earth safely. It's worth seeing if you are interested in historical movies and truth. Until that movie came out I had no clue who did the math to send folks to space and get them back safely. I assumed it was white men. Wrong again! . Why it took so many DECADES for the truth to be revealed I dare not assume or opine about. :)
