How about Socialism then, is socialism the new ideal?

Not really new. Socialism as a philosophy of governing goes back 150 years, to the works of Marx and Engels. Lenin shaped it to Bolshevism, Mao and Stalin spun it to Communism. All failed their citizens.  

Thus far, few, if any, examples of a socialist government have survived over time, intact to its ideals, or completely absent a corollary of despotism.  

Nothing new about that.  Always were people who wanted to appropriate what others have worked for.  Robbery.
