Barber Shop or Beauty Salon?

Nowadays most of them service both men and women. I got a haircut yesterday and my wife is thinking of going to the same place.

I went to a barber shop for decades, until the guy retired.
He knew all his customers by name, their hobbies, their family, etc.
I always wondered if the CIA, NSA, etc didn't use barbers in foreign countries as informants.  lol

Now I go to Great Clips - which is not really a barber shop or beauty salon.
It's the "fast food" version of haircuts/styling.
