If you're working with others on some project to make the country better do you really care what his/her politics are? Just like guys in battle don't care. There are more important things facing them than politics. Like LIFE or DEATH. Who cares who is watching your back when "the enemy" attacks. Do you really who saves your life or whose life you save? I dunno. It sounds good to me. How workable it would be I don't know.
