    Hello Rosie:

It depends on how one defines "harm"..  If the refugees are white, we have plenty of room..  But, if they're brown, and you wanna keep your country white, they'll "harm" it.  However, if you believe the words embedded on the Statue of Liberty,  “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free”, no amount of refugees can "harm" us.

I believe those words with all my heart excon since I am first generation American. My grandparents and parents were were among the" tired, poor huddled masses yearning to breathe free." It saddens me that those words are ridiculed by the actions/words of  paranoid nationalistic people who have the power to ignore them. Thank you for your reply exco ! :)

Yes, whatever number it takes to prevent them from assimilating into the country. When you immigrate to a country you should because a part of that country not try to change the new country into the old. You should learn the language and the customs. Not try to change laws, or force your customs on your new neighbors.
I am a 2nd gen German and 3rd gen Swedish but I am all American.

Thank you for your reply m2c. So you do not honor any German or Swedish customs then? All you eat  are hot dogs and hamburgers and will never make Swedish Meatballs or any German dish because that would mean you were not properly assimilated? I see.

I didn't say you must abandon all of your old customs, foods, language, celebrations etc. Simply that you should not expect to change the country moved to. If I want to take up yodelling become of my Swedish heritage, I can nothing wrong with that. But if I try require my neighbors must also learn to yodel as well...that is a problem. Or they MUST eat Swedish meatballs and German Potato salad that is wrong and I would be disrespecting both my neighbors and my new country which has laws of liberty freedom for all. Just as if my grandparents would not have learned English and encouraged it use in their home, it would have been a disservice to both their descendants and their new country.

What people do that? It is the host country who insists on assimilation. Not the other way around.  What immigrants have ever forced you to eat their food, mimic their customers, speak THEIR language, be assimilated by them? I don't get where you are coming from. I must be missing something. Can you fill in the blanks please and thank you m2c.  Thank you for your reply.
