You have to work together. Two heads are better than one. So they say. If every country is out for itself alone then what happens when the next global crisis strikes when each country is "unavailable" to help?

The National Democratic Party of Germany is not new. It has been around 50 years. Its members are not "having their way" by any means. Any informed world citizen you would be aware of that. It has never won a seat in the National Assembly, and only recently won a single seat in the European Parliament. Its 1.5 percent share of the constituency vote is significantly lower than it has been in decades past.

The German population of 80 million is more than 10 percent non-German. Turks comprise the biggest non-German share at 2.4% and they have been coming into Germany, starting as guest workers, for over 50 years. The country took in 1 million asylum seekers last year alone, which adjusted for population would be like USA taking in 4 million compared to Obama's boastful 10,000 Syrian refugees. Refugees good, refugees bad, or refugees indifferent, no American would be sensible in criticizing Germans for being anything but lenient in opening their doors to a troubled world. In being relatively generous for admitting immigrants, the country has been atoning for a long-ago Nazi past, but at some point some people are going to say "enough".
