What, if anything, would you have done?

Yesterday when we came home we saw a guy with a knapsack on his back just standing on the sidewalk of our across-the-street neighbor's home. They were gone. He just stood there not looking at the house but looking straight ahead. He did not seem to be in any distress. We kept looking out the window and he was very still. After about 30 minutes he turned around and walked up the street and disappeared.

Would you have approached him and asked if he needed any help?. Would you have just keep observing him as we did?

I would have done what you did.  There is NOTHING to do.  I know it seemed suspicious.  It looks VERY strange.  But, that is because you and I are naturally suspicious.

It was too soon to tell.  You did the right thing.  If he doesn't know he was being observed, he may not shy away.  Meaning, he may be casing the joint and if you called the police, the call would be totally ignored and if you had something to report later, they would think you were crying "Wolf!" maybe.

He was doing nothing.  Maybe he was looking for directions and thought he knew where he was going or something like that.  Maybe he wanted to surprise these friends and they were not home.  (I doubt it, but MAYBE)

And it is good that this is in your frame of reference because if you hear anything, you can maybe describe him later.

I hope he was just spaced out on something and tired.  Be safe.

It was so weird Sharon. He seemed to be motionless. Jim made a comment that maybe he was comunicating with GOD or hearing voices. He was too far away for us to see if his lips were moving. I didn't see any phone in his hands. His arms were just handing down by his side. At one point he moved forward a few feet and became very still again. He wasn't doing anything. I mean it isn't illegal to just stop and stand somewhere but we've never anything like that. We neighbors watch out for one another. It's a really friendly place. Thank you for your reply! I guess the first time you experience something so odd it makes an impression.

I've seen similar things a few times.

I have decided they are government androids, getting a firmware or software update.
When it happens, they just stop doing whatever they were doing, until the install finishes.

Either that, or an evolution of the Weeping Angels.

You have? Really? It was beyond bizarre. Still. Motionless. Upright. He didn't look at all threatening. He didn't seem to be having any difficulty. There he stood for what seemed to be a VERY LONG TIME. Maybe your idea is not too far off base. Maybe he was hearing voices or something. Thank you for your reply Walt!  :)
