I've always at least test driven vehicles, before I buy. Usually, I also take them to a mechanic I trust. But still, I got stuck with a junker. The mechanic would have had to take the engine apart to see the damage. It cost me about $4,000 to repair the engine - which is about what I paid for the truck. So $8,000 total.
Bummer Walt. So do you bring your mechanic to the sales lot and have him/her check it out there (how would they do that?) or do they allow you to take it off the lot to your mechanic? When I was on my own alone and wanted to buy a car I'd go to a car rental agency. Someone told me that they have to maintain their autos well so you'd probably not get a lemon. I did that a few times and I was always happy with the purchase. Thank you for your reply. How long did the truck last? Are you still driving it? :)
I have to set a time to take it to my mechanic's shop.
I only had that truck a couple months, before I had to trade it in for a larger vehicle. At least I got the high book value from it, because of the repairs. lol
