Do tanning salons cause skin cancer just as cigarettes cause lung cancer? Why would any sane person use either of them?

Supposedly, tanning machines do more damage to the skin than the sun.

i read that too L. What whites won't do to look more like there people-of-color sisters and brothers. The irony of it all!  Thank you for your reply! :)

I don't sit in the sun anymore, but I guess when I did, it was so that I didn't look so fair complexioned all year long.  Happy Wednesday. :)

When I was 50 I developed a pre-cancerous something on my face. My then Doc told me my days of being a "sun goddess" were over and done. Ever since then I protect myself from the sun. Also I take a prescription drug that advises
"Avoid prolonged or excessive exposure to direct and/or artificial sunlight while using this medication". I've been taking it for years. Thank you for your reply L!  I don't have wrinkles which amazes me. I do have sags on my face though. My mom wasn't very wrinkled either. Nor my grandmother. So it may be genetic. Now my younger sis (by 7 years) is wrinkled. I can't explain that! Go figger! This post was edited by RosieG at July 24, 2019 8:49 AM MDT

It could be genetic.  My dad had very few wrinkles and I've taken after him.  My mom was, and my sisters still are sun worshippers and they have the wrinkles to prove it.  :)

I guess genetics can be kind tricky that way. I was a sun worshipper for decades. More so than my sister. I do not remember ever seeing her in a bathing suit as an adult. Further she never goes barefoot and that's how I always am in the house when it's warm. I am a barefoot or sandal gal through and through. Thank you for your reply L. I guess we're blessed in more ways than one my friend! :)

Hahaha - I can't stand walking barefoot unless I'm at the beach. :)  Happy Thursday. :)

Ever walk barefoot on  hot sidewalk? Equally awful yet folks walk their dogs on hot sidewalks all the time. I wonder why? :)

No, I haven't.  I know they walk dogs on the sidewalk, but unless you have a back yard, where else can you walk them?

There are dog parks L. I don't know if there are lots of them. But there are also parks and empty lots. I've never had a dog I had to walk. We had one when I was ten. A cocker spaniel named Blackie. But we had an enormously huge backyard. We had room to keep chickens. We had a vegetable garden. In the olden days we had an incinerator way in the back that doubled as a barbecue. That was before the EPA outlawed burning trash and made them illegal to use. So Blackie had tons of room to frolic about all day long. Thank you for your reply! :)

We don't have many empty lots where I live.  Almost every empty space is being filled with "affordable" housing or private homes.  Since I don't have a dog, I'm not sure where the dog parks are located.

"Affordable housing"? In NEW YORK? How is that even possible? I think living in New York is even pricier than living in California but of course I don't know that for a fact. Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)

That was why I used quotation marks. :)  There is no such thing as affordable housing in NYC.  Studio apartments in my neighborhood start at $1500 a month.
