Are devil's advocates phonies? Don't they argue positions they don't believe? Why? Just to deceive? Would we be better off without them?
It's one thing to ardently "argue" a position in which you deeply believe. Have you ever argued a position you did not believe? Why? What was the payoff? I don't get it!
