    They do. McCain....
This year we had Jim Webb, Rick Perry, Lindsay Graham.

In fact every President since Ike has served in the military with the exceptions of Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Active millitary personnel have some pretty strict rules to keep them from meeddlin in the internal pilitics of the country. I remember one case where some Military man had endorsed a candidate at a rally while wearing his uniform. That was a No No, and he got severely reprimanded. While in uniform he represents The US, and he must not use the authority that gives him to influence the democratic process.

Mc Cain is long retired, not active military, Likewise GWB went AWOL long before he ran for the precidency. Neither of them a representatives of the military.

Colin Powell would be a good candidate. He has both combat experience and statesmanship experience. A bit too old now though.

None had the stature or bona fides of Ike though. He was prescient.  Ahead of his time. He is the one who had interstate highways built m2c. He is the one who warned us about the Military-Industrial Complex. He much smarter than he was given credit for. Sad. Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)

That seems very sad to me JakobA. Why would a military person abrogate his right to speak up in uniform? Does that seem fair to you? Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday! :)

I agree. Though he would be excoriated by the Republican Party for admitting that he didn't know that the crap info he was told about  "weapons of mass destruction" was bullsh **! He'd be okay in my book Ele even though he served as a Republican. Thank you for your reply! :)

Some choose to be involved in government, just not necessarily elected office. Through their careers, it was all about respecting civilian command and not pushing themselves as qualified experts - even if they were.

Some names that come to mind are Colin Powell and Al Haig.

As a post-service career they seem to find it more lucrative to work for defense contractors.

So because he is retired military, he is not a "military folk"? Or not currently serving?

I am sure veterans will be happy to learn that....
