What's the diff between "SO WHAT" and "WHO CARES"? Aren't both equally dismissive and rude? Which do you say when you're not OK?

I say "Who cares?" a lot when I watch the news. Not rude. Especially after seeing it four times. (Actually, I don't say who cares. Mine is a bit more expletive.) This post was edited by Element 99 at August 31, 2019 8:40 AM MDT

In retrospect E I can't really ever remember being a "WHO CARES" homo sap. I am definitely a "SO WHAT"? I care about a lot of things others don't. I get ticked off majorly when someone shows up and says WHO CARES? OBVIOUSLY I CARE or I would not ask the question. That is a dumba** reply in my opinion. But SO WHAT is kinda challenging and testy and feisty. When I say things like "so we disagree. SO WHAT?" I'm challenging the person to tell me my disagreeing is unacceptable. Nothing there that is remotely akin to WHO CARES? But if you save it up for the TV I have no problem with that. If it ain't directed at me it's none of my business what you say to whom or when or why. I save up choice epithets and scream them at the TV. What I'd never say here or write. My Jim listens and says "you tell 'em honey"! He is used to me. Thank you for your reply E! :) Ever say that to anyone on an internet social site? What was the reception/reaction? I would never direct either one toward an individual. Very rude.

Interestingly, I don't recall you ever doing that. Possibly because I don't answer very many of your questions. I would think those would be directed at you more often. Rude either way.

Well you do have the option of never answering any of my questions. That way you would avoid me altogether no matter what iteration manifestation I was at the time. Yours for consideration and to ponder. Free of charge.

I don't say that in response to how I feel.  I say that in response to whether an issue matters or not.

Example:   President Trump thinks it is okay to be friends with Kanye West.

You know?  Who cares.  But that doesn't mean I don't care about the topic.

Did you ever consider keeping your "who cares" to yourself? Since you know how I perceive it perhaps you could refrain from using it when answering a question? A request not a demand because I always have the option of ignoring you. Thank you for your reply Sharon. We each have options. We should take the ones that most suit us.
