I did it once that I recall. I like to see for myself rather than always take the word of others. What I did was a small thing but stays with me to this day. YES YOU CAN. YES YOU CAN. YES YOU CAN. What does it hurt to TRY?
During the short time I attended UCLA I was going to apply for a part-time job at a classy department store. BULLOCK'S was its name and it was in the heart of Westwood Village. I don't know if it still exists. I told my roommate of my intention and she told me not to bother. They weren't hiring. She had tried to get a job there.
So I went to the store and applied and got a job which I held during the time I was at UCLA. Monday nights, Friday nights and Saturdays. When I withdrew from school I quit the job. They offered me a future position at the store if I would just change my major to business/marketing and they would help with the costs of the education. I was floored. But a degree in business/marketing held no interest for me so I didn't accept that very kind and surprising offer. Which goes to show you what can come from ignoring people who tell you that "it can't be done" or "you can't get there from here". SIGH. I don't know whatever happened to that girl. I wondered how she turned out?
