    I believe they wear body cameras which they turn on if called to an altercation.

    Sometimes the body cameras "malfunction". Now whether they do so "naturally" or given a push by a human hand I don't know. I'm pretty sure cops aren't thrilled with having to do that in Phoenix. They may rescind that rule. It would get in the way of the macho cop who likes to brandish a gun. Sigh. Thank you for your reply!
